NO LAW
While at KRAFTON I had the opportunity to work on our upcoming title, NO LAW. In addition to working on the logo design, I concepted the key art that my art director, Andy Fernandez, was able to turn into a reality.
Concept
After creating several other concepts, one began to take shape and gain some traction internally. An homage to the absolute legend Drew Struzan, this piece highlighted our hero against a backdrop of his foes and the fictional city of Port Desire.
After several iterations and paint overs, the layout began to click and my initial vision was coming to life. The concept was finally chosen to go into full production. To create game accurate key art, a multitude of assets needed to be extracted from the game engine. However, that process is very time consuming, so another approach was needed. My coworkers Joel Schrieber (Capture Artist) and Jaraad Nageer (Producer) devised a workflow in Unreal Engine that allowed us to capture highly detailed .EXRs of buildings and models that were captured against an alpha channel background that instantly gave us very high resolution images with perfect transparency. These were then handed off to our Art Director, Andy Fernandez, to work his magic.
Final
After a painstaking amount of labor, Andy completed the piece and brought my initial concept to life. After months of concepting, revisions, and pulling game assets, it was incredible to see the efforts and hard work of multiple team members finally come together in one finished piece that we couldn’t be more proud of.
This piece ended up gracing the cover of EDGE magazine for its featured coverage of NO LAW.
